Technical translation
Technical Translation is concerned with researching and standardizing terminology across a translation. We employ Trados and Phrase termbases and our technical translation database to manage alternatives, and search previous projects.
Post-editing and MTPE
Revision of machine translations. Proofing, revision, review and correction of technical, industrial and general texts.
We correct, localize and proofread machine translations. Depending on the quality of the initial translation, this could involve advanced revision of a poor quality or poorly translated text.
Proofreading
‘Traditional’ proofreading is generally limited to correcting spelling and grammar. But with the advent of machine translation, the translator is there to add value to the target text. This means keeping an eye on the context, the meaning, the fluidity and readability of a text.
Website localization
Website localization is to ensure that the target text ‘sounds right’. Localization of websites may be adapting to say UK English or US English.
Advanced website localization involves research the keywords, headings and text appropriate for a local market, with a view to optimize content for search engines and web users.
Software localization
Software localization may involve the translation and localization of on-screen elements in a traditional application, or machine interface.
Transcreation
Where technical translation is precise, focusing on the correct terms and precise instructions, some translations are much ‘looser’. Or rather, they need a certain creative licence. For instance in tourism, a text may require different emphasis to the source, using specific market-focused terms, that attract potential visitors.
Transcription and Subtitling
We transcribe voice recordings from video or audio sources, and subtitle video in English. This may be for corporate content such as business presentations, films, or series.
Technologies used
We use the leading CAT tools Trados Studio and Phrase TMS, to retain document formatting and manage translations, and these five key translation tools for rapid, quality delivery.
Translation projects and capacity
We have undertaken translation projects in supply chain, system specifications, document management, finance, construction, GDPR, engineering, tourism, winemaking, horse breeding, carpet weaving, and food safety. Our usual weekly capacity is 11k words for translation or 22k for proofreading.
